Hi there, I'm new to both the RYA Training Plotter and also this forum so please excuse me if I'm asking a daft question.

I have loaded in chart GB3RYA30 and it shows Lat and Long as if I'm in the Northern Hemisphere as I expected.

However, when I use the mouse to point at a lighthouse to see the light information - flashing interval, colours etc. - where it displays say a solid red light, the degree of arc for that light is shown as if it were oriented to South, not North.

Any ideas please?

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter.

Please can you post the Lat and long values for the light so that I can have a look?

Kind regards
Alex

Thanks for getting back so quickly Alex.

It seems to be all of them actually but as an example:

Christopher Point - 45° 53.99'N 5°46.90'W

Looking at the chart the lights are clockwise: White, Red, Green and measuring with a bearing line gives: White 245°-93°, Red 93°-107°, Green 107°-140°.

Using the chart's own data display which appears when you point at it, the light shows: White 065°-273°, Red 273°-287°, Green 287°-320°.

So, the data shows them to be 180° from what they are on the chart.

Hi Peter.

Yes this is confusing. The convention is to show the bearing towards the light rather than away from it. This makes it easier to quickly read the numbers when you are trying to get a position fix while on your boat.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards
Alex
